Motorsport's most frustrating problem.
Have you ever been at the start line and the engine stalls and fails to start?
Been over some hard bumps and the engine cuts out and fails to start?
Have you ever thought you had run out fuel as the engine keeps cutting out?
The FIA Red Lever Key switch for the engine cut off.
They
are notorious for developing a poor connection. Drawing pins, bits of paper
and plastic have all been used - as a get you going remedy. BUT
there is a cure. Do
with out it! Yes
I know you need a cut off but the best is The
Solid State Electrical Cut Off System
by ARMTECH
(Omex)
The compact unit contains NO moving parts and provides effective isolation of the battery using just one short earth strap. The alternator output is also safely taken care of.
Control
of the unit is by means of three waterproof push button switches. Inboard there
are two switches KILL and RESET ON. Externally another larger waterproof switch
(also vibration and shock proof) is ready for marshal or rescue activation.
All
three switches are connected using low voltage wiring thus reducing heavy wire
to a minimum. Pull cables are no longer required. And extra external kill switches
could be wired in.
The starter current is 1000A plus intermittant and the alternator current is 250A continuous. The unit only draws 0.1Amp whilst activated and nothing (of course) when killed.
The unit comes as a comple kit with instructions and the safety sticker.

By the year 2000 all fire extinguishers used in British Motorsport should have had to comply with new regulations brought about by the Montreal Convention. In essence this means that any HALON based or more commonly BCF unit would be illegal, they now have a 2 year extension.
If
you drive an FIA homologated car you will have to comply.
Lifeline produce a range of fire extinguishers and the ZERO 2000 filled units are the ones that will apply to most competitors. However if your regulations allow a small hand held unit then Lifeline's AFFF unit will replace the BCF unit you have now.
Why wait, if you
have to replace your fire system, replace it with AFFF
I have an arrangement with Lifeline to sell their Fire Extinguishers in Scotland.
The relevant information
can be found in the 2007 MSA book in Section Q 3.1
The 2007 Year Book has most of the requirements written into the Off Road section
